Getting engaged is very exciting and definitely a big occasion. It’s the start of a journey towards your wedding and of course to your marriage and that’s a big deal.   Commemorate the occasion with an engagement portrait and flash that sparkly ring in the studio!

There’s a few practical reasons for having an engagement portrait photo shoot as well as just to create great images of the two of you as a couple.

  • It’s a good way to get to know your wedding photographer – I offer engagement sessions as part of my wedding photography packages and they’re a fun way to get to know each other, talk over wedding plans, pass on some posing tips and tricks and general shake off any camera shy nerves that you might be feeling.  By the end of the session, you’ll be relaxed and ready for your photos on your big day.

  • Create your Save the Date or Wedding Invitations – If you’re fancying adding a personal touch to your ‘Save the Date’ cards or wedding invitations then you can use images from your session to create them.  There are so many online printers these days, it’s a piece of (wedding) cake to upload a photo and add any relevant text and hey presto, you’re done.  Invitations with a personal touch from the two of you to your wedding guests.

  • Create a Signature Frame – Signature frames are a way of creating a lasting memory of your wedding day and all the guests who were there to wish you all the best that you can hang on your wall.  Rather than a guest book that will likely gather dust in your wedding memory box, you frame an image of you two inside a plain mount and display it on your wedding day without the glass.  Your guests can all sign the mount and write their good wishes for you and when you take it home, you simply pop the glass back in and hang it.  A daily reminder of your wedding day and all the folk who love and support you.

Your engagement session can be in any style that you fancy – the main idea is that it should capture your relationship and the two of you as a couple.  So if you want to be serious and romantic, then be that.  If you want to be silly and make out like you’re in a photo booth then do that.  If you’re all of these things, then mix and match – after all a relationship has many sides and you can build them all into one great studio photo shoot.  Have a look below at my Pinterest board for Save the Date and Engagement Portrait Ideas for some cool ways to make your portraits work for you and if you have ideas of your own, then just get in touch and I’m always happy to talk things over.
