This was a fond farewell to this fella as his last Joey Club baby photography club session.  So we went out in style celebrating his first birthday with a cake smash and tub splash photo shoot.

He was his usually happy self and enjoyed both of the sections of his shoot (quite often babies are keener on splashing and smashing but luckily you don’t need a lot of actual cake smashing to get great pictures).  We had a little ‘clean shoot’ at the start of the session to create some images and using one of my giant ‘number 1s’ (I have a pink one too).

I’m always getting asked about what’s the best cake to bring along to the cake smash.  Well it’s totally up to you – there’s a real mix of styles that people bring along.  In this case though, the cake came from The Cake Box in Langley Green and I have to say that they do work excellently at a photo shoot as well as being competitively priced for a professionally made cake. Of course, people use other bakers to make their cake, talented family members often pitch in.  Shop bought cakes can also work well although I’d recommend finding one with the squishiest icing that you can – the smooth royal icing type doesn’t work quite so well.  Then you can also just chuck butter icing on a shop bought sponge and add some sprinkles! All makes for a fun and messy session but we have the tub filled with warm bubbly water for a good clean up afterwards!

A cake smash and tub splash photo shoot is the perfect way to celebrate and commemorate that extra special first birthday.   We start with a clean shoot and mum and dad are welcome to get involved here as well for family pictures if you’d like to.  Then it’s time to get out the cake for some smashing fun!  After that, it’s time to fill your choice of tub with warm and bubbly water for more great pictures and a good old icing removal clean up.  Each session includes your five favourite digital images (chosen from your online gallery, there’s no sales session) and costs £95.
