Meet Aria.  She was quite a wakeful baby if I’m being honest so she did have me working quite hard to soothe and settle her (along with her mum providing plenty of food to keep her tummy happy).  Still I have patience in plentiful supply (and persistence as well) and we got there in short bursts to create a beautiful set of newborn photographs that really do show her off to her absolute best.  Which is pretty good, because she’s totally gorgeous.

The more observant amongst you will spot that she is lying in the opposite direction to most of the babies in my portfolio in that her head is facing to the left.  She’s one of my rare ‘backwards babies’ which isn’t at all a comment on their mental faculties but what I call them in my head when they are just more comfortable settling on that side.   It doesn’t happen that often and I have a pet theory that they might be left handed but no evidence at all to back that up as yet – it might well be that they just have a sore spot for some reason on the other side but Aria was definitely a ‘leftie’.  All of my sessions are led by the baby – they’re the boss.  She was more comfortable like that, so we switched it up and that’s how we worked.   It always amazes me how much personality and preference that such a tiny person has already but it’s one of the things that makes newborns so amazing.

Anyway, it was a challenging session and all the more wonderful for it – especially when I look at the finished photos.  Can’t wait to see her over the coming year!

Newborn Photography

A newborn photo shoot is best when your baby is between 5 and 10 days old as this is when they are at their maximum sleepiness and poseability to capture those dreamy shots.  For this reason, I definitely recommend that you book when you are pregnant as this is one less thing to worry about scheduling when you’ve just got home from the hospital.   We make an appointment for your due date plus 7 days and then adjust it as needed.

My newborn shoots include your three favourite digital images which you select from your online gallery a few weeks after your photo shoot – I don’t make you attend a sales or viewing session.  Sessions take place in my warm and cosy studio in Crawley Down and cost £95.
