Baby Finley came to visit, with his mum and dad of course. He was only a week old so it would be early for his solo engagement. Anyway, his newborn photo shoot went perfectly and he was happy to sleep soundly while we moved him around through various poses, accessories and prop sets. While he was peaceful, while I was taking the above photo, I was actually quite excited as it was the first time that I’ve used my brand new ‘birth announcement’ prop set – pick the date from the calendar blocks, set the time on the clock, write the weight on the tag, and spell out the name in my wooden letter set. Hey presto, you’ve got the perfect birth announcement image or wall art for the nursery. I just love the results!
I love to come up with new things to add to my props and accessories collection – spring time is always the time that I find I add the most, must be the season, I’ve really stopped looking at my spending for the last couple of months and I’m still having more ideas that I want to add. Oh well, it’s all worth it when you get the perfect image and prop set! His mum and dad also brought along some lovely items to include in their photo shoot to make it really personal to them – including the sizeable giraffe Finley is napping on. Hopefully he will make an appearance at the baby photography club sessions as well – the giraffe that is, I’m kind of presuming they’re going to bring along their baby – it will be really fun to look back over the year and see how he’s grown up alongside him.
A newborn photo shoot is best when your baby is between 5 and 10 days old as this is when they are at their maximum sleepiness and poseability to capture those dreamy shots. For this reason, I definitely recommend that you book when you are pregnant as this is one less thing to worry about scheduling when you’ve just got home from the hospital. We make an appointment for your due date plus 7 days and then adjust it as needed.
My newborn shoots include your three favourite digital images which you select from your online gallery a few weeks after your photo shoot – I don’t make you attend a sales or viewing session. Sessions take place in my warm and cosy studio in Crawley Down and cost £95.
